Paul & Rachel - New Moon Spoons

At Home in the Studio

At Home in the Studio

At Home in the Studio

We live 25 km inland from Eden on the pristine far south coast of NSW Australia.

We are totally off grid and rely on the sun for our power ,the sky for our water and the forest for out heating.

All the timber we carve is ethically sourced and we try to use every scrap, even the chips from the carving process are used as mulch on our gardens and paths.

Kuskas

At Home in the Studio

At Home in the Studio

These are traditional drinking cups of the indigenous Sami (Lapp people) of Northern Scandinavia.

Beyond its functionality, the Kuksa cup holds spiritual significance for the Sami people. It is believed that the spirit of the forest, known as the “luonto,” resides within the wood, infusing the cup with a sacred connection to nature. As such, the Kuksa is treated with great respect, and certain customs are observed when using and caring for it. These also hold a Nordic origin with a sacred status among traditional hikers, bush crafters and fell-goers.

Our Kuksas are carved from Silver Poplar and lined with food grade resin for ease of cleaning and finished with organic Safflower oil.

"Marmalade Session" are where we mix Green Woodworking, spoons, bowls, and kuksa carving with other crafts such as, natural fibre weaving, leather work, stool making and more.

In between times we take Green Wood Working on the road, a "Mini Marmalade" , where we teach and share the craft we love.
