Esther Jane is a unique timber earring line designed and created by artist Alison Baker on the far south coast of NSW in Bermagui. Her practise combines traditional art practices with digital editing tools – that is, printing Alison’s one-off original designs onto sustainably sourced Australian timber using high-quality, water-resistant eco-friendly ink. The result is delicious, seasonal, lightweight earrings in an ever-evolving variety of shapes, sizes and designs, from big, bold statement pieces to subtle studs and sleek, minimalist pieces.

Each limited-edition collection captures a rich vein of the artist’s imagination and reflects the shifting palette of the world around her. Across the Esther Jane range you can find creamy, translucent pastels beside stark primary colours, deep blue and vivid aquamarine against bright mustard tones and radiant reds, warm ochres and striking black and white. Patterns range from soft and organic to angular and bold, the unique grain of each piece of timber adding to every design.

It’s not just the texture that makes timber Alison’s material of choice; sustainability is a big part of the Esther Jane ethos. The hoop pine used to make each pair is an Australian native species, sustainably grown, sourced and manufactured in Queensland. It’s recyclable, biodegradable, uses less energy, chemicals and carbon to produce than other commonly used, and it’s so lightweight it doesn’t even feel like you’re wearing earrings. Findings are made from Sterling silver, 14k filled gold, rose gold, niobium (nickel & lead free) and hypoallergenic surgical steel stud posts to ensure those with common metal allergies are taken care of. We believe in beautiful, wearable, sustainable and affordable beauty for all.

Our last 12 months

Our evolving earring passion has continued to flourish over the last twelve months.

We have refined all of our practices to ensure better quality with our product and service, strengthened local supply chains, worked hard to continue keeping our price point affordable and spread the EJ love further afield.

We are now making the entire earring finding by hand using quality Sterling Silver or 14k filled Gold to ensure a stronger, more slim line feature, including a refined earring design process to ensure longer lasting wear!

Our future

We still support and promote our original artwork, locally made, lightweight, sustainable materials and eco friendly inks with our earring range. Something you can feel good about investing in.

You can find our EJ earring love scattered across stores in Victoria, NSW and NT. More exciting news includes Esther Jane branching out to the Wholesale platform Faire where we can share our love of ear candy and design further.

So stay tuned for that action to come!

A bit about Ali

My name is Ali Baker, owner and designer of Esther Jane Earrings

I majored in painting, print making and textiles at university.

I love colour, pattern and textures I create many different mediums to create works for my earring designs, a lot of these i do in watercolours, ink, pencil and screen-print.

I've been creating earrings for the past six years and making art actively for the last twenty.

The South Coast definitely holds a piece of my heart. I have lived in many places but this is such a beautiful calm environment to live in. It truly is a special place.

I believe that art has the power to make people feel and connect with one another. Through my work, I want to bring joy, peace, and inspiration to people's lives.
