The Local Craftsman

Aaron and Kathleen are a husband and wife team making leather goods from Australian leather based in Merimbula.

Aaron and Kathleen are passionate about crafting pieces with  their hands using the best materials possible. All the items are handstitched using the traditional saddle stitching method which Aaron has mastered for over 10 years.

The couple often bring unfinished leather goods to the markets they attend, demonstrating how leather is traditionally stitched by hand.

The leather goods they make include: Belts, bags, camera straps, keyrings, braided bracelets, kangaroo leather wallets and more.

aggie - stitch & Sprout

Aggie

Aggie is the maker behind Stitch & Sprout, based in Moruya on the beautiful NSW South Coast, she creates colourful, practical and individual pieces designed to bring a little more personality to everyday living.

Stitch & Sprout brings together Aggie's love of beautiful fabrics, handmade pieces, plants and creative homewares — from practical sewn products and trailing plants to lamps and lampshades transformed with gorgeous fabrics. Aggie loves creating things that are both useful and beautiful, and that help make a living space feel more personal, welcoming and a little less ordinary.

Aggie says " I also love being part of the South Coast creative community and meeting the people who take my handmade pieces — and plants!"

Stitch & Sprout is inspired by colour, fabric, plants and the spaces we live in. Aggie loves the idea that the things we use and surround ourselves with every day can be practical while still bringing us joy.

Sometimes inspiration starts with a beautiful piece of fabric; other times it's an interesting lamp base, a trailing plant or simply an idea.

She loves experimenting with colour, pattern and texture and turning everyday objects and materials into something useful, joyful and a little unexpected.

Stitch & Sprout

Stitch & Sprout is always evolving, and Aggie is excited to keep exploring new ways to bring colour, creativity and greenery into people's living spaces.

Stitch &  Sprout have recently begun taking that creativity beyond the market stall with DIY lampshade workshops, where people can experience the satisfaction of making something beautiful themselves. Next year, she is hoping to expand this further with plant propagation workshops, while also growing her range of trailing and hanging plants.

Aggie wants Stitch & Sprout to continue being about more than individual products — beautiful, useful things, plants and creative experiences that help people make their spaces feel like home.

Ali baker - Esther Jane Jewellery

Esther Jane Jewellery

Ali Baker is the owner and designer of Esther Jane Earrings, a brand known for its unique artisan jewelry. She majored in painting, printmaking, and textiles at university and has been creating handmade earrings for the past six years, while actively making art for the last twenty.

With her love of color, pattern, and textures, Ali uses various mediums to craft her earring designs, often employing watercolors, ink, pencil, and screen-printing techniques.

Ali believes that art, including her Ali Baker jewelry creations, has the power to evoke emotions and foster connections among people. Through her work, she aims to bring joy, peace, and inspiration into people's lives.

Esther Jane, known for their artisan jewelry, now crafts all earring findings by hand using high-quality Sterling Silver or 14k filled Gold. This ensures a stronger, more streamlined feature along with a refined earring design process that guarantees longer-lasting wear.

Ali Baker

Ali Baker jewelry proudly supports and promotes original artwork, featuring locally made, lightweight, sustainable materials, and eco-friendly inks throughout her earring range. It's a choice you can feel good about investing in.

There's a new earring collection on its way — rich, bright velvet tones that are every bit as lovely in person.

Ali says" ‘It's been twelve months since  Handmade on the South Coast, and I've spent that time going back to where it all begins — the original artworks my earring designs are drawn from. Those pieces have found new life on wood block wall art, handmade cards and framed works, and I'll be bringing the whole lot to the November market."

Amber Babidge - Kitchy Kitchen

Amber Babidge

I’m Amber, the maker behind Kitchy Kitchen, a small food business based in Narooma on the beautiful NSW South Coast.

Kitchy Kitchen started from my love of cooking, experimenting with flavours and creating things that are a little different from what you’ll find on the supermarket shelf. I make my products in small batches using fresh ingredients wherever possible, with plenty of flavour and a little bit of sass!

My range includes Sassy Salts, made by dehydrating real fruits, vegetables and herbs before blending them with salt; Sassy Fresh Mixers, made with real fruit for cocktails, mocktails and desserts; Roasted Garlic Pickled Mushrooms; Pineapple, Papaya & Ginger Paste; and my very own Sassy Kilpatrick – The Oyster Kilpatrick Kit, created right here on the South Coast.

Kitchy Kitchen

I’m very hands-on — from developing and testing recipes to making, packing and labelling the products myself. Most ideas start with me wondering, “Why can’t I make that?” or “There has to be an easier way to do this!” … and then the kitchen experiments begin.

Kitchy Kitchen is all about making good food fun, easy and packed with flavour — with a bit of retro personality thrown in for good measure

Our blends are retro-inspired, hand-crafted, and unapologetically bold — just like us.

So go on, turn that Tuesday dinner into a taste explosion, glam up your cocktails, or gift someone a jar of sass. Because life’s too short for bland.

Flavour with attitude. Salt with sass. Always

Anita Turner - art by anita

Anita Turner

Anita Turner

Anita Turner

As a single mum, I moved to the beautiful Bega Valley in 2018 to be closer to my parents. We have loved making a home here, surrounded by stunning countryside with the ocean right on our doorstep.

From a young age, I knew I wanted to be an artist. I went on to university and completed an Associate Diploma in Arts, majoring in Graphic Design and studying Illustration under the wonderful Australian Geographic illustrator, Tony Oliver.

This led to a career in Graphic Design, working in Sydney, London and Auckland. I now have over 30 years of experience in the industry and currently run my own graphic design business, Sapphire Graphics, here in Bega.

In 2020, I decided it was time to return to my love of illustration and began experimenting with watercolour pencils. After winning a few awards at local shows, I felt inspired to explore new mediums and techniques. This led me to acrylic painting, which has now become a true passion.

I discovered a particular love for painting Australian birds and flowers, and I’m continually pushing myself to experiment with new techniques, including fluid paint pouring and contemporary styles.

I’m still very much on my artistic journey, learning, experimenting and discovering where it takes me. I’m also incredibly thankful to have a very supportive partner who has encouraged me to step outside my comfort zone and put myself and my artwork out there more.

I’m excited to share that journey with you through Art by Anita Rose.
