Sunday 1st November Handmade on the South Coast

After ten years living in landlocked Colorado and rural Ontario, Sally and her family found our way back to Australia and chose the beautiful Eurobodalla South Coast as home.
Sally is a lifelong crocheter, 28 years and counting, after learning from her mum as a child. For most of those years, she crocheted for everyone else: baby showers, birthdays, housewarmings and special requests but in 2025, she decided it was finally time to crochet something for herself.
That decision opened the floodgates. and she fell headfirst into sculptural fibre, freeform crochet and experimenting with yarns, ropes and threads, embracing neutral tones, organic textures and a coastal aesthetic. Just 18 months later, she was a multi-award-winning fibre artist, two-time River of Art finalist, Australian Wearable Art 2026 finalist and 2025 Canberra Royal Overall Champion - Mixed Media.
Sally's coastal crochet home décor was her creative reset, a chance to put the serious art hat down, pick up a hook and simply create.
Sally is a lover of all things fibre and sculptural, and a passionate advocate for “not your average granny crochet”. She loves pushing the boundaries of what can be crocheted and seeing how far she can take a simple crochet hook, unconventional fibres and a little imagination.

The ocean is a constant source of inspiration for Sally, particularly its contrasts; strength and fragility, crashing waves and gentle ripples, resilience and calm. She see's so much of life reflected in those rhythms.
Sally says "I also love seeing how people interpret my work, because once a piece leaves my hands, it becomes their experience too, shaped by their own memories, emotions and stories."
Looking ahead, Sally would love to make her coastal crochet home décor more accessible through more workshops and, eventually, take-home kits that allow people to create their own coastal-inspired pieces.
"There’s something pretty special about taking a simple ball of fibre and turning it into something beautiful with your own two hands.
I especially love the connection that comes through markets and workshops"
Being a full-time exhibiting artist, is surprisingly solitary, so getting out amongst people, having a chat, sharing a laugh and watching someone discover their own creative spark is incredibly rewarding for her.
She hopes that connection will always be part of what she does.

Sandra grew up in Jugiong in the 50's and remembers the mail order catalogs from England with the oval bars of Bromley rose scented soap, a memory that has lasted her entire life.
It wasn't until 2017 that Sandra began researching how to make cold process soap and discovered the quality you can achieve in the soap by the selection of oils and butters used.

Sandra explains that each piece of soap is made up of fatty acids, it is the reaction of these fatty acids with the sodium hydroxide which brings different qualities to the finished bar of soap.
